Lola Mae Autry knows a thing or two about biscuits (see Lola Mae's Biscuits). Her husband liked them fresh at every meal, so for 40 years she baked them three times a day. Once, when her stepson brought some college friends home, she made 135 in one sitting. ''They gobbled 'em up as fast as I could make 'em!'' she recalls. Nowadays the 83-year-old Autry doesn't bake as often, but she's always got biscuits on hand. And come summer, you'll likely find her eating them toasted, buttered, and filled with salted tomato slices from her Mississippi garden, with bacon on the side.
